Value Stream mapping is a tool from the lean management tool kit that identifies how a series of activities creates value for customers and where their is waste in the process (time, material, effort, money) that can be removed to increase the speed and efficiency of a process creating value for a customer. A result of this can be increased sales and profitabilty.
This is a hands on workshop for supply chain value stream mapping. Learn how to value performance, and whick metrics matter.
During this simulation we will engage the audience through specific roles to identify gaps in the process flow that can applied in any business. Afterwards there will be time for discussion to talk about real life applications. All businesses and individuals are welcome to join!

About Jim Bates: Jim Bates is the President and CEO of Business Improvement Group, Inc. (BIG) and a Professor in several schools at UAA – including an Adjunct role in the Master of Science in Project Management program. Jim also serves as an advisory board member to various organizations.
Jim has a vast career spanning 37 years with proficiencies in Business Management and Information Technology. Recently he served three years as Director of Enterprise Technology Services for the State of Alaska and represented Alaska nationally as its Chief Information Officer (CIO). Jim has been providing business benefits through leadership, consulting, teaching, coaching, and mentoring for many diverse organizations since the early 1990’s - including F500’s.
Mr. Bates has a passion for teaching and is a champion of outcome-based learning. Jim has been providing business and IT instruction since 1992 and has developed class syllabi for many courses including professional certification preparation. He served as the VP of Education for the PMIAK and currently serves the organization as an advisory board member. Jim has become in high-demand as a Speaker, Facilitator, Panelist, Trainor, Mentor and Coach for diverse events and organizations nationwide.
